The Institute of Modern Art (IMA) is Australia's oldest independent visual art space. For nearly 50 years the IMA has been amplifying voices, igniting curiosity and inspiring change through contemporary art.

Host your event surrounded by cutting edge contemporary art from leading Australian and international artists. Or hire the gallery as a blank space and let your own creativity run wild.

Our venue includes four stunning gallery spaces, a screening room and foyer which spills onto a lovely street-front courtyard. With polished concrete floors throughout, 3 metre ceilings and museum-grade air conditioning, the IMA is a unique and flexible event space for 10 - 450 guests.

The IMA space is perfect for events such as: corporate lunches, brunch/breakfasts, cocktail parties, presentations and workshops, conferences, filming/photoshoots, private dinners, brand launches or activations, book launches and more.

Our spaces offer incredible flexibility to work with your own choice of catering and set up the space specifically to suit your event.

Most often we host events surrounded by extraordinary artworks, however, blank space hire is also available on specific dates throughout the year or we can arrange to clear the gallery for your special event as needed.

Theatre Space: The IMA is situated within the Judith Wright Centre where a 300 seat capacity theatre space is also available for hire via Arts Queensland should your event benefit from this addition. The theatre offers raked, cabaret or flat floor layout and includes high quality sound and AV equipment.
