The Matriarch
Best Grazing Restaurants

Newstead, 4006

Inside The Matriarch's majestic iron gates you will find a swanky garden patio laden with 25 year old olive trees and crystal chandeliers.

Almost immediately you transported to a different era, as the interior features are inspired by nineteenth century Parisian countryside. The white marble table tops, the mixtures of soft velvet topped with burning kerosene lanterns and fresh flowers create a unique ambiance that only The Matriarch has to offer.

As you enter through the romantic garden, behind the old handcrafted Indian doors, a hidden garden atrium is overflowing with an abundance of dramatic lighting fixtures and indoor foliage, and is the largest event space.

The decor of this establishment consists of many architectural elements that indicate the intense labour of love that went into creating a unique space that offers both an urban sanctuary, and romantic industrial feel where guests can relax in a sexy garden oasis.

They set out on a mission to democratise dining by creating a tapestry menu where a decadent selection of dishes get to be shared around the table, a tradition which the chef/owner Matthew De Wacht has a passion for. Allow their host to find you a cosy table and settle in with the extensive cocktail list packed with a plethora of delicious options. "Call me a Sex Object" is highly recommended.

For desserts the tea ladies roam the room with the sweets cart. You'll find it's adorned with a selection of TWG teas and cakes baked fresh daily.

It's time to stop and allow yourself to be transported back to an era where your experience is grounded by warmth and old fashion charm.
