Festivals This Summer: Melbourne Zoo Tastes of Twilight 2016

As if you needed another excuse to go to Melbourne Zoo this summer, the Tastes of Twilight season kicks off on January 29th with a killer line-up of all your favourite musicians set to the backdrop of a lion’s roar! Another one of Melbourne’s Festivals for a great cause: Music Against Wildlife Extinction!

Tastes of Twilight, a festival series of concerts spread over fourteen nights (seven weekends), is the ultimate night out in Melbourne! Nothing quite beats listening to your favourite artist after fawning over adorable meerkats and baby gorillas. The best part? They are raising money to save the Eastern Barred Bandicoot!

“The Zoo Twilights fighting extinction theme continues, after a successful year of developments with the Eastern Barred Bandicoot and in 2016 the season’s proceeds will once again go towards saving this little marsupial. In the past twelve months sixteen Eastern Barred Bandicoots have been successfully released into their new home on Churchill Island in Phillip Island Nature Parks. Considered extinct in the wild on the mainland since 1991, this small marsupial has been surviving behind predator proof fences designed to keep them safe from foxes and feral cats.” – Melbourne Zoo Twilights Media Release October 2015

The concerts run on Fridays and Saturdays (with an extra show on Sunday February 7 for those who missed out on John Butler Trio tickets the night before) between January 29th & March 12th. The zoo will be open the whole time so you can peruse the butterfly garden or check out the elephants before settling in for a night of great tunes and good vibes.

In true Melbourne style, there will be three tasty food trucks on site throughout the entire series. Try the tasty Po’ Boys from United Snacks of USA, Japanese fried chicken from Van Japan, or pappadums at the Curry Hut! There will also be beverages (COCKTAILS!) at Wild Dogs Café and pre-ordered hampers will be available for purchase alongside your tickets with freshly made breads and pastries for the picnic-goers.

If you are feeling super prepared, bring your own picnic, but make sure to avoid glass and alcohol as this is a NO BYO event.

Some concerts have already sold out, so make sure you get your tickets ASAP!
